Eric Johan Smith was a member of the Key West Public Works Art Project. Born in New York City and educated in Sweden, except for six weeks study with Audre L’Hote at the Academie Montparnasse, Paris, he was a self-taught artist. He is represented in the Whitney Museum in New York and the Gallery Uffizi, Florence, Italy. Education: France, Italy, Sweden. Exhibits: Key West Art Gallery, Caroline Lowe House, February 1935; Key West Paintings, by Twelve Key West Artists, toured the nation, 1936, pastel, Negro Boy, etching, Fish Peddler; Coral Gables Biltmore Hotel, with other Key West artists, March 1935, a watercolor, Sunday Morning and two etchings, House Tops and Boc Chica Key; Whitney Museum; Uffizi Gallery, Florence, Italy.
