David Nemerov began painting in 1951 while recovering from a car accident. Nemerov retired as chairman of the board of Russek’s, a large department store on 5th avenue in New York City, and in 1957, turned to art full time. When 31 of his 49-paintings sold for strong prices at Gallery 28 in New York City, he was no longer an amateur. Nemerov retired to Palm Beach in 1958. The Miami Herald described his work as, “Mainly with palette knife, his pictures impressionistic and three-dimensional.” Famed American photographer Diane Arbus is his daughter.
