Walter Cole’s studio and home were in Sheffield, Massachusetts. Like many artists Cole spent winters in Florida, first in St. Augustine and later on South Beach in Fort Pierce.
Prominent in the magazine and advertising art world in New York City for over forty years, Cole exhibited at the National Academy, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the American Watercolor Society. During World War I he made a series of documentary paintings for the 302 Engineers, 77 Division A.E.F., done under action in the Argonne. He designed World War I posters for the Liberty Loan Committee.
In summers Cole taught at his studio in Sheffield. He first moved to St Augustine, and in1961 to Fort Pierce, opening an exhibit of his watercolors and oils at the Ft. Pierce Art Gallery in March.
