Eric Schenk was born in Leipzig, Germany in 1901. He immigrated to the United States in 1928 to work in New York City with Max Fleischer and Fleischer Studios as background director for the studio’s short films that included Betty Boop, Popeye the Sailor and Superman. He moved with Fleischer Studios, to Miami in the Fall of 1938, working there until the studio closed in 1943. Schenk continued in Miami, working as a book illustrator for Sangor Studios, illustrating comic books for ACG (American Comics Group) and Better Publications. In 1943 he illustrated The Adventures of Salty Sam, by H. Virgil Wylie and Rita Grossman, published by Glades House of Coral Gables. Other artists working for Glades House included O. F. McIntyre, art director of the Miami Daily News and Gustav Bohland. He died in Miami in 1951. Two of Schenk’s paintings are in the permanent collection of the Leipzig Historic Museum.
