William Greene came to Key West in 1949. In January 1952 he began a series of lectures on art at the West Martello Gallery. The Key West Citizen reviewed his exhibit at Karns Gallery, January 19, 1953, “Green’s amicable nature is reflected in his work…Overseas during World War II, Greene made sketches of points in Europe and North Africa…Greene is a master of brush details…His areas of light are handled with an exactness seldom seen in contemporary watercolors…Distance perspective is one of Greene’s mystic qualities.”
