Edith Walker had a studio in Highland Park, a suburb of Chicago, before first coming to St. Augustine in the winter of 1933 with her mother Eleanor Walker, who wrote a column, What A Woman Sees, for the Chicago Daily News. Edith Walker met St. Augustine businessman Robert Oliver and the couple were married in St. Augustine in 1935.

Known for her dry point etchings, Edith Walker Oliver also worked in oil and watercolor. In 1936 she was appointed chairman, State of Florida, for National Arts Week. An active member of the St. Augustine Arts Club for the next twenty years, Oliver spent her summers at Hager Park just west of Grand Rapids, near Lake Michigan, and winters in St. Augustine, until her death in St. Augustine in 1979.
